UVA Health Children's Hospital is seeking experienced pediatric RNs for its Pediatric Float Pool, a role designed for nurses who already bring clinical experience in pediatric critical care, acute pediatrics, emergency care, or a combination of these areas. This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise across several high
- acuity pediatric environments while remaining part of a cohesive, well supported nursing team.

The Role
This position is intended for experienced pediatric nurses who want to work across multiple pediatric service lines. Nurses hired into the Pediatric Float Pool are expected to have prior experience in one or more of the following areas
: PICU, Acute Pediatrics, and the Pediatric Emergency Department. That experience allows you to move confidently between units and contribute effectively from the start.
You will support patient care needs across PICU, Acute Pediatrics, and the Pediatric Emergency Department based on census, level of care, and operational demand.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver safe, evidence-based, family centered care to pediatric patients across inpatient and emergency settings
- Apply your pediatric experience to manage a wide range of acuity
, from medically complex acute care to critical illness - Collaborate closely with pediatric physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Adapt to different unit workflows while maintaining consistent standards of quality, safety, and communication
- Serve as a reliable clinical resource during high-volume periods and staffing needs
Assignments vary by shift and patient need. You may spend a shift in the PICU caring for critically ill children, support an Acute Pediatrics unit managing complex medical conditions, or assist in the Pediatric Emergency Department during peak volumes. Regardless of location, your role is to bring experience, sound judgment, and stability to each care environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience:
1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure:
Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills;
Attention to detail and ability to write legibly;
Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The starting base rate for this role is $39.90 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
