The University of Virginia’s Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well‑being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Virginia’s Medical Services, a unit within SHW, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Administer nursing care to patients requiring care in an ambulatory setting based on nursing practice standards.
  • Assist with medical examinations, patient teaching, and home care.
  • Administer immunizations, oral and injectable medications.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Document and report patient information clearly and concisely via electronic medical record.
  • Evaluate each patient’s response to treatments and procedures.
  • Lead certified nursing assistants.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Salary range: $27‑$30 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an in‑person, overtime‑eligible position with UVA benefits.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma; preference for at least one year of experience as an LPN.
  • Licensure:
    Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check and a health and drug screen.
About the Position

This is a full‑time (40 hours per week), non‑exempt level, benefited position.

Job responsibilities include standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive), and repetitive computer keyboard use. You must have proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills, attention to detail, and the ability to write legibly. Ability to lift, push, or pull 50‑100 lbs is required. The work environment may include exposure to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
