Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the PACU — Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit. This is a part‑time day‑shift position in Charlottesville, VA, requiring three 10‑hour shifts plus required call.
Sign‑on bonus of $7,500 available for qualified candidates.
PACU:The Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit
Registered Nursing Staff observe and treat post‑operative patients from radiology, endoscopy, general surgery, urology, complex GYN, neurosurgery, vascular/thoracic, and orthopedic services. The 12‑bed unit maintains a 1‑to‑2 nurse‑to‑patient ratio.
Operating hours: 7:30 AM – 9:30 PM, Monday‑Friday, with designated overnight and weekend call staff to mitigate call shift burden. Call schedule: one Friday overnight shift every 6‑8 weeks, approximately six to eight evening call shifts Monday‑Thursday per six‑week schedule, and one 24‑hour holiday call shift per year. Call requirements may vary to meet unit needs and occasionally require additional hours.
Experienced RNs can expect 6 to 12 weeks of orientation on the unit.

- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or MSN (preferred)
- Registered nursing license (required)
- ACLS required prior to completion of orientation
- PALS required prior to completion of orientation
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- 1–2 years of RN experience
- Critical care or PACU experience in a hospital required
- Manages complex cases in fast‑paced environments
- Communicates with patients and providers
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The RN must meet standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation) and standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
