UVA Health, Children's Hospital is seeking dedicated Advanced Practice Providers to join the Neonatal Critical Care (NICU) team. The UVA Neonatal ICU is a level 4, tertiary center caring for patients from all over Virginia and a portion of Tennessee.
Advanced Practice Providers on the Neonatal ICU team are responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of the critical ill infant in a setting that offers the latest benefits and innovations supported by research. The role includes working in a team-based care delivery, including presenting patients during team rounds, attending high risk deliveries, performing critical care procedures, overnight in-house coverage and educating staff.

The mission of the Neonatal ICU APP team is to improve the quality of life for babies and families in the Neonatal ICU by providing compassionate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care. We use an interdisciplinary approach in collaboration with our community partners to achieve the best possible outcome.
Advanced practice experience in neonatal or pediatric critical care setting is preferred, however will consider new graduate APP dedicated to learning in a fast-paced environment.
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
** Administration*
* + Partner with the health system to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care
+ Participate in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for quality metrics
+ Maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with institutional, state, and federal regulations
+ Supports clinical operations through adherence to institutional policies, procedures, and clinical pathways
+ Participates in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and workflow optimization as assigned
+ Support implementation of enhanced care delivery models designed to improve patient health outcomes and satisfaction
** Professional*
* + Work collaboratively with all levels of personnel
+ Maintain active involvement in education, consultation, research and leadership initiatives throughout the department, organization, and profession
+ Practices in accordance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and scope of practice for Advanced Practice Providers
+ Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
+ Demonstrates cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse needs of Neonatal ICU patients and families
+ Engages in ongoing professional development, continuing education, and maintenance of certification and licensure
** Clinical*
* + Provides comprehensive clinical care to patients independently and in collaboration with the Neonatologists.
+ Responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of the critical ill infant in a setting that offers the latest benefits and innovations supported by research.
+ Performs advanced practice procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health system credentialing and privileges.
+ Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic laboratory tests and imaging studies
+ Prescribes and recommends pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies within scope of practice
+ Initiates specialty consultations and referrals as clinically indicated
+ Ensures accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record
+ Recognizes and responds to acute and emergent clinical situations, initiating life-saving interventions and activating appropriate interdisciplinary support
+ Provide education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and procedural care to families, staff, and learners
** Leadership*
* + Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to initiate, evaluate, and refine clinical pathways and protocols
+ Supports and strengthens interdisciplinary relationships to promote coordinated, patient-centered care
+ Serves as a clinical resource and role model for staff, students, and trainees
+ Contributes to the advancement of Neonatal ICU Care through participation in program development, quality initiatives, and best-practice implementation
+ Provide mentorship and education to students and staff members
+ Exhibit leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
Experience:
Department and unit specific.
Licensure:
License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
