Overview
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Full Time Second Shift Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department in Charlottesville, VA. This is a three 12‑hour shift position with required call.

Emergency Department
:
The Main ED sees between 70 and 100 patients per day. 2 years of hospital‑based RN experience is preferred.
Required Call
:
Full‑time nurses have 16 hours of required call per 6 weeks. Part‑time nurses have 12 hours of required call per 6 weeks.
Orientation
:
Experienced Registered Nurses will complete a 10‑week orientation period on the unit.
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing competent nursing care using the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The RN conducts assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, and health promotion, as well as evaluating care. The RN demonstrates professional standards in ethics, cultural congruence, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health, ensuring high quality patient care.
Education- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science Nursing (MSN) preferred
- Registered Nursing License (required)
- ACLS certification required prior to completion of orientation
- PALS certification required prior to completion of orientation
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
- 2 years of Emergency Room experience preferred (critical care or acute care)
- Experience managing complex cases in fast‑paced environments
- Strong communication with patients and providers
