Position: Unit Coordinator (RN) Intensive Care Unit

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital

We are hiring a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for the Intensive Care Unit. This Full Time Night (12-hr shift) position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

Ideal Candidates

At least 2 years of Registered Nursing experience in an ICU setting.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate proficiency in nursing practice for the assigned specialty area and provide clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in the department. Under the direction of the department manager, lead safety and quality initiatives, focus on and simplify workflow, and contribute to staff development. Increase staff satisfaction and promote excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.

Unit Details

The mixed Critical Care (ICU) 15-bed and Step-down (IMCU) 5-bed unit features 15 private rooms with Phillips monitoring and state‑of‑the‑art Hil Rom technology with low air loss, continual lateral rotation, and percussion capabilities. The unit serves a broad range of patient conditions, including neurology, cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology, nephrology, and surgical patients. An interprofessional team with daily interdisciplinary rounds and 24/7 critical care NP/PA presence supports nurses.

Nursing staff ratio is 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient needs, with a 12‑hour shift schedule and rotating weekends.

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is a primary plus stroke center with specialty services such as ventriculostomy monitoring, NICOM, balloon pump, transvenous pacing, CRRT, and others.

Education
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) – required
  • Master of Science Nursing (MSN) – preferred
Certification/Licensure
  • Registered nursing license – required
  • BLS – required within 90 days of hire
  • Professional specialty nursing certification – preferred
  • ACLS – preferred prior to hire, required within 90 days of hire
  • NIH certification – required within 6 months of hire
Experience
  • 18 months of acute care RN experience – required
  • Previous healthcare experience – required
  • 2 years of ICU specific experience – preferred
  • Stroke and cardiac experience – preferred
