Overview
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia seeks a full‑time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support ambulatory women’s care, including obstetrics and benign gynecology services. This position expands the current team of 7 APPs and 8 Certified Nurse Midwives in Charlottesville, VA.
Responsibilities- Provide in‑scope ambulatory obstetrical and well‑woman gynecological care at outpatient locations and outreach sites throughout the UVA Health footprint.
- Perform comprehensive history and physical assessments, document findings, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
- Prescribe pharmacological and non‑pharmacological interventions, initiate appropriate specialty consultations, and recognize acute/emergent situations requiring immediate response.
- Perform routine annual visits with preventive health testing, follow‑up of results, IUD insertion/removal, colposcopies, and other gynecological procedures.
- Educate residents, medical students, APP students, and nursing staff; mentor APP students and support clinical rotations.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives, performance improvement projects, and contribute to departmental research activities.
- Participate in academic meetings, Grand Rounds, and M&M sessions.
- Master’s degree as an Advanced Practice Provider — Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- One to two years of experience as an APP is preferred; new graduates are also considered.
- Valid license (or license‑eligible) as an APP in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must meet all credentialing requirements of UVA Medical Center and relevant state boards.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS/NRP and ACLS as appropriate.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, teaching, and patient‑centered care skills in a fast‑paced academic environment.
- Ability to maintain advanced certifications and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Maintain professional licensure, DEA registration, and practice agreements.
- Continue education for clinical skills (e.g., colposcopy, IUD insertion) and pursue CEU/CME conferences.
- Serve on committees in the department, division, or institution and present at clinical forums.
- Standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending, stooping, and lifting or pulling 20–50 lbs.
- Requires proficiency in communication, auditory, and visual skills.
- Exposure to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases may occur.
The starting base rate for this role is $ annually. Total compensation will reflect the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and education.
