Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Part‑time, Day‑shift Registered Nurse for our Short Stay/Surgical Observation Unit (Wendell
2). The unit is a 24‑bed unit with a 1:5‑to‑1:6 patient‑to‑RN ratio and serves women’s health, ortho/spine, general surgery, and bariatric short‑stay populations. The unit operates primarily 12‑hour shifts with weekend rotation.
Hours:
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (two 12‑hour shifts). Sign‑on bonus up to $7,500 for qualified candidates. The unit receives support from patient‑care technicians covering 8‑12 patients, unit coordinators, resource nurses, and an experienced educator. Orientation is conducted twice a week with the manager and educator to ensure a strong learning opportunity.
As a Registered Nurse on the Short Stay/Surgical Observation Unit, you will provide high‑quality nursing care, manage patient treatment plans, facilitate rapid patient discharge, and maintain a safe environment for short‑stay patients.
Transition ProgramThe hospital offers a unique 6‑month Transition to Practice Program for new RNs or those with less than 12 months of experience:
- No separate application required; automatic enrollment.
