Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This is a part‑time day shift position based in Charlottesville, VA with two 10‑hour shifts and required on‑call duties. Qualified candidates may receive a sign‑on bonus of $7,500.
The PACU is a 12‑bed unit staffed with a 1‑to‑2 nursing‑to‑patient ratio. It operates Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 9:30PM, with designated overnight and weekend call staff. Call responsibilities include one Friday overnight call every 6 to 8 weeks, six to eight evening calls Monday‑Thursday per six‑week schedule, one 24‑hour holiday call per year, and occasional additional hours as needed.
Orientation lasts 6 to 12 weeks.
Key responsibilities:
- Observe and treat post‑operative patients from diverse service lines (radiology, endoscopy, general surgery, urology, complex GYN, neurosurgery, vascular/thoracic, orthopedic).
- Apply critical‑thinking nursing processes (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination, evaluation).
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary providers to coordinate care and advance patient recovery.
- Maintain clinical documentation and quality metrics while adhering to hospital standards and evidence‑based practice.
- Participate in ongoing education, certifications, and quality improvement initiatives.
Education and licensure:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred;
Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing required. - Registered nursing license (RN) required.
- ACLS certification required prior to orientation.
- PALS certification required prior to orientation.
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
Experience:
- 1–2years of RN experience.
- Critical care or PACU experience in a hospital setting required.
- Ability to manage complex cases in a fast‑paced environment.
