Unit Coordinator Registered Nurse; RN Surgical Short Stay Unit

Overview

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for Surgery Unit 1 – Observation Short Stay. This is a full‑time day (12‑hour shift) position located in Charlottesville, VA.

The role requires proficiency in acute nursing practice for the assigned specialty area and involves providing clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in the department. Under the direction of the department manager, the RN Unit Coordinator leads safety and quality initiatives, simplifies workflow, contributes to staff development, increases staff satisfaction, and promotes excellent customer service.

Wendell 2 – Surgical Short Stay is a 24‑bed unit with a 1:5–1:6 patient‑to‑RN ratio. The unit serves short‑stay populations from Women’s Health, Orthopedics/Spine, General Surgery, and Bariatrics. Shift work is primarily a 12‑hour schedule with weekend rotation. The team includes patient‑care technicians, unit coordinators, resource nurses, and an educator with over 20 years of experience.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – required
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – preferred

• Registered Nursing license – required
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire
• Professional specialty nursing certification – preferred

• 18 months of acute‑care RN experience – required
• Previous healthcare experience – required
• Post‑surgical unit experience – preferred
• Same‑day surgery experience – preferred
