The University of Virginia's number one ranked Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well‑being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Virginia’s Medical Services, a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking a Registered Nurse 3.
Registered Nurse 3 employees plan and provide professional nursing services and patient care in outpatient settings. They ensure compliance with physician orders and follow established nursing processes, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. They exercise judgment and decision making in their daily work. Work is somewhat independent and performed according to established protocols. Registered Nurse 3 employees perform much of the same work as Registered Nurse 2 employees with more experience, an increased level of competency, more complex assigned tasks, and the ability to lead a team.
Responsibilities- Assess patients using nursing skills to evaluate vital signs, breath sounds, and any specific observations needed.
- Perform specific therapeutic interventions that assist medical evaluation.
- Read and synthesize information from patients’ files, which may include medical histories, prescribed medications, vital sign readings, and clinical observations, to learn about patients’ conditions, determine patients’ care priorities, and prepare test requisitions according to physicians’ specifications.
- Communicate patient status and changes in patient condition as appropriate, and collaborate with nursing supervisor to address complex issues.
- Serve as a coordinator for a specific nurse clinic.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor of Science degree, or Associate’s Degree in Nursing. - Experience:
Five years of experience as an RN. - Licensure:
Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $43–$47.25 per hour, commensurate with qualifications. The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent traveling, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
This position is located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA. It is a nonexempt-level, benefited position and an in‑office role. The position will not sponsor immigration. The selected applicant will pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
