Clinical review and auto offer. 26 bed, acute care unit with a diverse patient population, primarily comprised of general surgery and trauma patients. Post-surgical patients make up 90% of the unit with the remaining 10% having medical diagnosis. All rooms are capable of cardiac monitoring, capnography or end-tidal CO2 monitoring, and continuous pulse oximetry.

Shift: Day 3x12-hour (07:00 - 19:00)

Schedule:

36 hours per week. Block scheduling cannot be accommodated/guaranteed. 13 weeks. Every other weekend, every other holiday. Unable to approve Labor Day weekend off. Can approve 40 hours for time off.

BLS, ACLS preferred not required. Must adhere to UVA’s float policy. Can submit with VA license pending. Must have Epic experience.

BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, breast reconstruction with implants, breast reconstruction with tram flap, central line care/management, chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur Evac, epidural analgesia, feeding tube care and management, heparin protocols, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, IV insulin protocols, management of dysrhythmias, mastectomy, MS/Tele, nasal cannula, ortho trauma, oxygen administration, oxygen tanks, PCA, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, pre/post hemodialysis management, skin grafts, surgical drains, telemetry - remote monitoring, titration of insulin drips, tracheostomy care/management, traumatic brain injury, use of rapid response/code teams, wound care/wound vac.

Special procedures/unit details: 5 West is a 22 bed, acute care unit with a diverse patient population, primarily comprised of general surgery and trauma patients. All rooms are capable of cardiac monitoring, capnography, and continuous pulse oximetry. We schedule for 3 CNA/PCTs for a full unit of 22 patients, in addition to 1 HUC (secretary) M-F . Other support roles include a CNS (clinical nurse specialist), Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, Administrative Assistant, and a Medical Director.

Special equipment:
We have 8 beds for telemetry or end-tidal CO2 monitoring: all monitored patients are covered by monitor techs at a central monitoring unit. Nurses are not required to verify strips. Unit nurse ratios are usually 1:4, occasionally 1:5, with a free-float charge RN. UVA has an IV team as well as phlebotomy services, so IV and phlebotomy expertise is not necessary.

We also have an inpatient wound care team with strong support by WOC RNs 7 days a week for wound vac and ostomy needs.
