The Role

Acute Cardiology is a
30-bed acute care cardiology unit on 4 West
that cares for non-ICU cardiovascular patients requiring telemetrymonitoringand frequent procedural coordination. The unit offers a unique blend of clinical complexity, team collaboration, and leadership opportunities. As the Assistant Nurse Manager
, you will provide visible support to staff, help coordinate daily operations, and contribute to projects that improve both patient care and team effectiveness.

An average day may include:

  • Serving as a trusted resource for nurses, particularly newer nurses and recent graduates who may needadditionalsupport or clinical guidance.
  • Partnering with charge nurses to navigate patient flow, admissions, discharges, procedures, and unit priorities.
  • Providing real-time support during busy periods by helping coordinate care needs and problem-solving operational challenges.
  • Coaching team members through clinical situations, reinforcing best practices, and promoting confidence and professional growth.
  • Participating in quality improvement activities, validation efforts, audits, and observation-based initiatives that strengthen patient care delivery.
  • Collaborating with NPGO leaders, Clin 4RNteam members, educators, and interdisciplinary partners on unit projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizing policies, procedures, and evidence-based practice to guide decision-making whilemaintainingconsistency and fairness across the team.
  • Supporting operational and facility-related initiatives that help ensure staff and patients have the resources they need for success.
  • Balancing immediate frontline needs with longer-term project work and strategic priorities.

This role is primarily a leadership and support position rather than a routine patient assignment role. You will remain highly visible on the unit, stepping in when needed while helping drive operational excellence and staff development.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday with flexibility to support unit needs across varying start and end times. Leadership call responsibilities are shared across the cardiology division on a rotating schedule.
