Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery
This position requires a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience with both low and high-risk populations. Average annual deliveries in this unit are around 2000. Nurses will be expected to cross-train to Mother/Baby care. Floating to NICU unit may be required as needed. The unit has 8 private labor rooms and 4 private triage beds.
Two OB operating rooms are available for surgical procedures. Skills required include circulating for C-sections and postpartum hemorrhage management. Neonatal assessment and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns are critical. Candidates should have experience in administering magnesium sulfate therapy. They must also possess skills in drawing venous blood and maintaining IV therapy. The patient ratios during the night shift are 1-2 patients per nurse.
Interdisciplinary support includes various services such as physical therapy and social services. Patients served may have complex diagnoses, including gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. Special procedures will include cerclage and fetal transfusions. The nursing team will provide routine care for stable infants in the NICU. Successful candidates will be required to document and communicate changes in patient conditions. Recognition and treatment of maternal comorbidities are also part of the role.
