Job Description & How to Apply Below
Bring your pediatric nursing expertise into a role where
** coordination, clinical judgment, family education, and continuity of care
** directly shape the experience of children and young adults managing complex neurologic conditions.
As a Registered Nurse Care Coordinator in the Pediatric Neurology Clinic at UVA Health, you will support patients with conditions such as headaches, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and multiple sclerosis/neuroimmunological conditions. This is an opportunity to practice in a highly collaborative outpatient specialty environment where your ability to anticipate needs, close care gaps, communicate clearly, and keep families moving forward truly matters.
** The Role*
* The RNCC is central to the longitudinal care of a dedicated patient panel, working closely with multiple providers to ensure families receive timely guidance, education, follow-up, and support. This is a strong fit for an RN who enjoys
** outpatient specialty care, complex pediatric populations, care coordination, and meaningful patient-family relationships** .
This role is primarily desk-based, with opportunities to engage directly with patients and families in clinic. The schedule is
** Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.** , with responsibility for closing the clinic at least one day per week by staying until the final patient has left. There are
** no weekends, no holidays, no nights, and no on-call responsibilities** , making this a compelling
opportunity for nurses seeking a more predictable day-shift rhythm.
In an average day, you may:
+ Manage
** in-basket*
* ** messages** , patient questions, care needs, and follow-up communication.
+ Coordinate care for pediatric neurology patients across visits, referrals, testing, procedures, and documentation needs.
+ Provide education to patients and families managing neurologic symptoms or chronic conditions.
+ Support timely completion of forms and care-related documentation.
+ Partner closely with providers, nurses, and clinic team members to keep patient care moving efficiently.
+ Participate in clinic-based patient and family interactions, with some opportunities for hands-on support.
+ Assist with procedures such as Botox and rare lumbar punctures when needed.
+ Help improve procedure workflows, referral response times, and coordinated care processes.
The Pediatric Neurology Clinic is a smaller, highly connected environment with 9 exam rooms, where teamwork, flexibility, and a positive attitude are essential. The team works closely together, adjusts in real time to patient and clinic needs, and values people who are willing to jump in, learn something new, and lend a hand.
** Why UVA Health*
* UVA Health offers nurses the opportunity to practice within an
** integrated academic health system
** that includes a leading medical center, UVA Health Children's, the UVA School of Medicine, the UVA School of Nursing, and a broad network of specialty and ambulatory care clinics. For pediatric nurses, that means being part of a system designed for collaboration, learning, innovation, and exceptional family-centered care.
This Pediatric Neurology RNCC position is especially meaningful because the team is growing. The role helps expand the Pediatric Neuro nursing team to its largest size yet, strengthening the clinic's ability to improve workflows, respond to referrals promptly, and provide
** truly coordinated care
** for children, young adults, and their families.
At UVA Health, you will find:
+ A
** Magnet-recognized nursing environment
** that supports clinical excellence, professional voice, and evidence-based practice.
+ A pediatric academic setting connected to
** UVA Health Children's** , recognized as a leading children's hospital in Virginia.
