Groundskeeper Crew Lead
Performs responsible routine work as lead worker in the maintenance and cleaning of grounds in city parks, schools, right‑of‑way, public recreational facilities, and/or Downtown Mall. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Groundskeeper Supervisor.
The hiring amount for this position is between $23.42 an hour - $28.78 an hour ($48,713.60 - $59,862.40 annually). Starting pay for this position is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. Responsibilities- Performs and leads others in a variety of activities at city parks, downtown mall, schools, right‑of‑way, and/or recreational facilities including but not limited to:
- Mowing and weeding grass, planting and mulching, and planting trees
- Dragging and lining ball fields, preparing fields after the season by adding dirt and cutting sod, and grass removal off field
- Fertilizing and reseeding turf
- Pruning and trimming trees and shrubs, limbs and felling trees as needed
- Finding and digging urn graves, and marking areas for full graves and head stones
- Managing fallen leaves; clearing and removing snow and ice off walkways
- Clears and removes snow from walkways, parks and other assigned areas
- Cleaning up trash and debris
- Serves in a lead capacity, such as assigning tasks, reviewing work quality, providing guidance and technical assistance to maintenance crew and others.
- Schedules work and ensures quality and safety standards are met. Coordinates with supervisor to prioritize scheduled and unscheduled work.
- Tracks inventory to ensure necessary supplies, tools and equipment are available. Responsible for the storage, application, disposal, documentation and recordkeeping of materials.
- Operates city vehicle in the performs of duties, including heavy equipment; operates and maintains equipment, hand tools, and power tools engaged in routine and more difficult maintenance and construction projects. Ensures proper care in the use and upkeep of equipment assigned.
- Performs basic equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Responds to applicable work orders or requests from the public and staff; interacts effectively and professionally.
- Completes work according to maintenance standards and checklists, and reports issues to supervisor to ensure proper operations and/or adherence of safety regulations and implements corrective measures.
