Overview
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Senior Scientist to work in the Analytical Neurochemistry Lab of Prof. Jill Venton. We are seeking candidates to work as a lab manager on NIH RO1-funded projects involving designing new pharmacogenetic tests and designing techniques to measure neurotransmitters.
Responsibilities- Act as lab manager, helping students with their projects, composing protocols, writing grants, and writing scientific publications.
- Design pharmacogenetic tests and techniques to measure neurotransmitters as part of NIH RO1-funded projects.
- Contribute to the pharmacogenetics project to detect genetic profiles that underlie drug metabolism of antidepressants.
- Develop new methods to measure real-time changes in neurotransmitters in rodents and Drosophila, integrating genetics skills and neuroscience knowledge.
- PhD in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field.
- Experience in genetics and neurochemistry is preferred.
- Senior Scientist level, with a preference for at least two years of experience past postdoc.
- Skills in managing lab research projects, working with students, and writing scientific publications.
