Senior Scientist of Chemistry

Overview

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Senior Scientist to work in the Analytical Neurochemistry Lab of Prof. Jill Venton. We are seeking candidates to work as a lab manager on NIH RO1-funded projects involving designing new pharmacogenetic tests and designing techniques to measure neurotransmitters.

• Act as lab manager, helping students with their projects, composing protocols, writing grants, and writing scientific publications.
• Design pharmacogenetic tests and techniques to measure neurotransmitters as part of NIH RO1-funded projects.
• Contribute to the pharmacogenetics project to detect genetic profiles that underlie drug metabolism of antidepressants.
• Develop new methods to measure real-time changes in neurotransmitters in rodents and Drosophila, integrating genetics skills and neuroscience knowledge.

• PhD in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field.
• Experience in genetics and neurochemistry is preferred.
• Senior Scientist level, with a preference for at least two years of experience past postdoc.
• Skills in managing lab research projects, working with students, and writing scientific publications.

This is a three-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for additional one to three years, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
