Research Scientist, Biomedical Science
Overview
The Wythe Lab has an open position for a postdoctoral research associate to manage research projects, train junior scientists, and help maintain a dynamic laboratory environment. We attack biological questions on multiple fronts, using gold standard genetic models—such as the mouse and zebrafish—cutting edge imaging techniques (light sheet, micro-CT), genome-wide analyses (bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, etc), and classical biochemistry to solve key problems in cardiovascular development and disease.
Current projects are focused on vascular biology in malignant brain cancer (glioma) and vascular anomalies within the brain.
You will oversee and direct specific research projects, manage individuals where needed, and ensure a fluid working environment. Your efforts will be critical to achieve the group’s goals of understanding the genetic and molecular events that give rise to a functional cardiovascular system. You will present data at national and international meetings, create figures, craft talks and manuscripts, and submit training grant proposals for internal and external funding.
Formal coursework will enhance your knowledge base, and rigorous mentoring and training on scientific presentation and writing skills will be provided. We will encourage any career path that appeals to you.
Highly motivated, well‑organized individual with excellent skills in problem solving, hypothesis development and testing, scientific communication, and experience in standard molecular and genetic techniques centered on a model organism (mouse, zebrafish, fly, or yeast). Bioinformatics knowledge is useful but not a prerequisite.
