The Qi Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to study endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein quality control, membrane biology, and proteostasis in physiology and disease. The lab utilizes a multidisciplinary approach that integrates biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, genetics, mouse models, and imaging to investigate fundamental mechanisms governing ER‑associated degradation, protein targeting and trafficking, membrane protein biogenesis, and organelle homeostasis.
ResearchEnvironment
The Qi Lab fosters a collaborative, rigorous scientific environment that emphasizes creativity, scientific independence, mentorship, and professional development. Trainees are encouraged to pursue innovative research questions and receive strong support for career advancement in academia and biotechnology.
FacilitiesThe laboratory is located within the Fontaine Research Park at the University of Virginia, providing access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities including cryo‑electron microscopy, advanced imaging, proteomics, flow cytometry, transgenic mouse, and genomics cores.
Funding & Research FocusFunded by the NIH and other foundations, the Lab seeks candidates interested in: ERAD in membrane protein biogenesis and organelle proteostasis; ERAD in protein targeting, translocation, and membrane trafficking.
Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, neuroscience, or a related field.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
