Position Overview
The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology & Oncology, at the University of Virginia seeks multiple postdoctoral research associates to join the research team within the Chalfant laboratory. The start date of this position is as soon as possible. The position will be under the supervision of Dr. Charles
E. Chalfant.
The Chalfant laboratory focuses on advancing two molecular mechanisms—RNA splicing and lipid signaling—as they relate to cancer, cardiovascular disease, wound healing, infectious disease, and diabetes. The goal is to identify key dysregulated mechanisms that can be precisely targeted to improve clinical outcomes and to develop therapeutic strategies.
Minimum Requirements- PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) degree in hand by start date.
- Background in molecular biology (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9, lentivirus, adenovirus), lipid signaling, lipidomics, or RNA splicing.
- Training others is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently and cross‑culturally in diverse environments.
The incumbent will develop molecular skills and assays, including high‑throughput drug discovery assays, secondary screening assays, cell models, and novel genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) that are not currently available in the laboratory. Additional responsibilities include writing grant proposals, constructing and presenting research papers, and working toward an independent research role over the next 3 to 5 years.
Position Details- 12‑month appointment with possibility of renewal for two additional one‑year increments, contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
- Salary commensurate with education and experience.
- Fully funded by National Institutes of Health grants (100% grant‑funded).
- Exempt level, benefited position.
