The Cliffe lab in the UVA School of Medicine Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the mechanisms of Herpes Simplex Virus latent infection in neurons. The candidate will investigate the epigenetic regulation of HSV latency and reactivation through multiple NIH‑funded projects.
Responsibilities- Investigate the epigenetic regulation of HSV latency and reactivation in neuronal cells.
- Develop and execute experiments using molecular, virological and epigenetic techniques.
- Analyze data and present findings at lab meetings and conferences.
- Collaborate with senior scholars and other lab members to advance research goals.
- Prepare manuscripts and contribute to the publication of research results.
- Position: 12‑month appointment with possibility of renewal contingent on funding and satisfactory performance.
- Salary: commensurate with education and experience.

- Doctoral degree in biology, virology, molecular biology, or related field.
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate awarded within the previous five years.
- First‑author publication(s) in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Ability to work well in a highly interactive, creative, and collaborative environment.
- Strong background in virology or molecular biology.
- Experience with epigenetic processes in neurons.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
This is a primarily sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The role may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
