Lab Specialist – Part time
Dr. Tsai‑Yi Lu’s laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks an enthusiastic and responsible Lab Specialist to support research projects studying the homeostasis of oligodendrocyte lineage cells in brain health and disease. The anticipated start date for this role is September 1, 2026.
Responsibilities- Assist with lab mouse colony maintenance.
- Perform experiments to explore the roles of oligodendrocyte lineage cells in neurodegenerative disease.
- Support ongoing research projects investigating oligodendrocyte lineage homeostasis in brain health and disease.
- Develop the potential to lead independent research projects and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in molecular biology or mouse husbandry.
- Proficiency in basic molecular biology bench skills, including PCR.
- Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, and record‑keeping skills.
The position requires frequent standing, squatting, bench work, keyboarding, and fine manipulation during animal procedures.
Position Type & LocationsPart‑time, benefited position with a one‑year term limit. The role is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on‑site.
