If they can determine, on the most basic level, how the immune system distinguishes between healthy and harmful cells, this could lead to revolutionary new treatments and cures based on controlling the immune response.

B. Carter Immunology Research Center (CIC) at the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine seeks a Research Associate to perform sophisticated experimental research in the areas of immune regulation of lung injury, recovery and chronic disease development following infection. The successful candidate will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits.
The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CIC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.

Responsibilities- Full‑time research and/or scholarship at the University.
- Preparatory for a full‑time academic or research career.
- Supervised by a senior scholar and allows publishing the results of your research or scholarship.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Assist with maintenance and upkeep of laboratory, as applicable.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Doctoral degree.
- Highly motivated to develop new research avenues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Intensive experience in small animal procedures, flow cytometry, molecular biology, immune cell purification and culture.
- Experience in molecular biology, microscopy, cellular immunology, T cell biology, lung biology, murine models of disease, and human samples is preferred.
This is primarily a sedentary job with extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Salary RangeHiring range is $63,480 - $64,380, commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work LocationThis is an exempt‑level, benefited position. This is a restricted position dependent on funding. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on‑site.
