Position Summary
The University of Virginia's Beirne
B. Carter Immunology Research Center (CIC) seeks a Research Associate to conduct sophisticated experimental research on immune regulation of lung injury, recovery, and chronic disease development following infection. The candidate will participate in relevant lab projects, write study reports, papers, and grant applications, and develop research programs as time permits. They will also attend lab meetings, CIC-related seminars, and collaborate with graduate students, technicians, fellows, and other collaborators.
- Full‑time research and/or scholarship at the University.
- Preparatory for a full‑time academic or research career.
- Supervised by a senior scholar; the applicant can publish the results of his/her research or scholarship.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Assist with maintenance and upkeep of laboratory, as applicable.
- In addition to the above, other duties may be assigned.
- Doctoral degree.
The candidate should be highly motivated to develop new research avenues and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in small animal procedures, flow cytometry, molecular biology, immune cell purification and culture, and related techniques is preferred. Also preferred experience in molecular biology, microscopy, cellular immunology, T cell biology, lung biology, murine models of disease, and human samples.
Physical DemandsThis is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. It occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Salary RangeThe hiring range is $63,480 - $64,380, commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work LocationThis is an exempt-level, benefited position. It is a restricted and funding‑dependent position. The position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on‑site.
