Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Research Scientist, Biotech Research, Biomedical Science
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Prof. Michelle Personick. The Person ick Group conducts research at the interface of inorganic materials chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and fundamental surface science to design tailored metal nanomaterials that function as improved catalysts for energy‑ and resource‑efficient chemical transformations.
Responsibilities & ProjectsThe postdoc will work on projects involving the use of electrochemistry to (1) design new syntheses for shape‑ and composition‑controlled metal nanoparticles and (2) probe nanoparticle growth mechanisms. The work will include developing an integrated electrochemical approach that combines real‑time, in‑situ electrochemical measurements with electrochemically driven nanoparticle growth (electrode position).
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field (awarded or imminent).
- Experience in electrochemistry and nanomaterials synthesis.
- Expertise in electrode position, electroanalytical chemistry, and in‑situ measurements to understand nanoparticle growth mechanisms.
- Strong ability in experimental design, data analysis, and data management.
- Experience with mentoring students.
- Demonstrated record of publishing research relevant to the position in high‑quality peer‑reviewed research journals.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
- Proficiency in working independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
The anticipated hiring range is $63,500–$64,400, commensurate with experience. A one‑year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for additional one‑year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
