Postdoc Research Associate Cell Biology

The Department of Cell Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking an eager and self-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work in Dr. Sameer Bajikar's laboratory (  ). The lab is working on several projects related to studying the underlying causes of neurodevelopmental disorders. These projects involve the development and characterization of new cellular and rodent models and tools to study neurodevelopmental disorders.

The prospective employee will work closely with the PI to complete experiments in support of the ongoing, long-term research projects.

Responsibilities Include:

* Perform experimental procedures based on objectives in Dr. Bajikar's project goals and involve self-planning and design of experiments, including, but not limited to, PCR, molecular biology/recombinant DNA, cell culture, protein and RNA isolation, quantitative RT-PCR, immunoblotting, mouse colony maintenance, and mouse handling and experimentation

* Provide experimental support for larger scale on going, long-term experiments led by other lab members

* Maintain and organized and detailed lab notebook, tabulated experimental results, and reagent inventory

* Prepare summary figures and presentations of results

* Attend and participate in lab meetings

* In addition to the above responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Education, Doctoral degree

Preferred Requirements:
Experience in rodent handling is preferred

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary Range:
The anticipated hiring range is $63,480-$65,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Funding Details :
This position has a term limit of 1 year after which continued employment will depend on department need and funding.

Work Arrangement :
This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
