Youth-Nex Research Professional (Staff Wage)

Youth-Nex, UVA Center to Promote Effective Youth Development, seeks an hourly or wage Research Professional. This position will contribute to a range of tasks, including, but not limited to, provide research support across projects focused on youth mental health, prevention, and educational interventions. The ideal candidate will be able to support projects through video data coding, data management and cleaning, qualitative research activities, curriculum refinement, and other research assistant responsibilities.

This position involves a combination of independent research responsibilities and collaborative work with faculty, research staff, and other project team members. Specific responsibilities may vary based on project needs and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic coding of video-based research data according to established coding protocols.
  • Assist with data cleaning, organization, quality assurance, and preparation of research datasets.
  • Support qualitative data collection, including preparation, organization, and documentation of qualitative research materials.
  • Assist with qualitative data analysis, including coding and organization of qualitative data and participation in consensus or research team discussions as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the refinement and development of research curricula and intervention materials based on project protocols, research findings, and team feedback.
  • Assist with maintaining organized and accurate project records, research materials, and documentation.
  • Support preparation and organization of research data and materials for analysis and project deliverables.
  • Participate in research team meetings and communicate regularly with project staff regarding progress, questions, and challenges.
  • Follow established research protocols and procedures, including requirements related to data security, confidentiality, and research integrity.
  • Complete other research-related tasks as assigned in support of ongoing project activities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established research protocols.
  • Ability to organize, manage, and maintain accurate research data and documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed.
  • Interest in research related to mental health, education, prevention, or related fields.

Hourly Rate: $17 Anticipated

Start Date:

Late August 2026 This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. Experience:

  • Prior experience with research, data coding, data management, or qualitative research.
  • Experience working with video or observational research data.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis and/or qualitative coding software.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or refining educational or intervention materials.
  • Experience working on research projects involving children, adolescents, families, educators, or schools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
