Lab Tech / Assistant, Research Assistant/Associate, Biology
The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Research Technician or Specialist for the Levental Lab.
The Research Technician will investigate how membrane organization is regulated and influences cellular responses. Using genetically engineered cell lines, the Research Technician will characterize protein paralipidomes using fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and other fluorescence techniques. The Specialist will also assist ongoing projects in the membrane determinants of cell-cell fusion of myoblasts. Training in critical experimental aspects will be provided.
Research Technicians are also expected to provide administrative lab support, including ordering, new lab member onboarding, and general lab upkeep. Finally, Technicians are expected to provide help to other lab personnel in routine molecular biology, cell culture, and other lab tasks.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum RequirementsResearch Technician
Education:
Bachelor's degree required, may accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.
Experience:
1+ year of relevant lab experience.

3+ years of relevant experience.
Master's degree in life sciences or a related field preferred.
1+ year of lab experience to include hands-on experience with cell and molecular biology. Background in immunology preferred.
Anticipated Salary:$52,000 annually.
Physical DemandsThis position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
