Responsibilities
The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Scientist position to work in the lab of Dr. Lian-Wang Guo, Department of Surgery, with a focus on vascular epigenetics. The successful candidate will design and conduct independent and collaborative research in vascular biology, with an emphasis on epigenetic mechanisms underlying vascular wall remodeling and disease, lead and contribute to the preparation of peer‑reviewed publications, participate in grant applications, supervise and train graduate and undergraduate students, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements for laboratory research.
Minimum QualificationsPhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or master’s degree with significant experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, including CRISPR-based epigenetic and genome editing, CUT&Tag, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, ChIP, proximity ligation, and microscopy
- Demonstrated experiences in cell signaling, epigenetic regulations, physiology and vascular diseases
- Demonstrated skills in rodent microsurgery
- Records of working independently and collaboratively with strong publications
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary and BenefitsSalary will be commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt‑level, benefited position.
Position DetailsThis is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
This position has a term limit of 3 years after which continued employment will depend on department need and funding.
This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
