Overview
The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Scientist position in the lab of Dr. Lian‑Wang Guo, Department of Surgery, focusing on vascular epigenetics. The successful candidate will design and conduct independent and collaborative research in vascular biology, emphasizing epigenetic mechanisms underlying vascular wall remodeling and disease. Responsibilities include leading and contributing to peer‑reviewed publications, participating in grant applications, supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
Minimum QualificationsPhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, or a master’s degree with significant experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, including CRISPR-based epigenetic and genome editing, CUT&Tag, scRNA‑seq, spatial transcriptomics, ChIP, proximity ligation, and microscopy.
- Experience in cell signaling, epigenetic regulation, physiology, and vascular diseases.
- Skills in rodent microsurgery.
- Records of independent and collaborative work with strong publications.
This is a primarily sedentary position involving extensive use of a desktop computer. Occasional travel may be required for meetings and programs.
Salary and BenefitsSalary will be commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt-level, benefited position with a term limit of 3 years; continued employment depends on department needs and funding. The position is based in Charlottesville, VA and requires full on‑site performance.
