Facilities Management's Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic to join their team. HVAC Mechanics perform journey level installation, repair, and maintenance on a variety of package and central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Other duties include preventive maintenance; servicing, overhauling, and maintaining a variety of large central units; and determining equipment needs.
HVAC Mechanics receive job assignments from a supervisor, however most work is performed with little supervision.
- Perform HVAC installation and repairs, along with diagnostic and preventative maintenance on a variety of air conditioning units, ventilation equipment, temperature and humidity controls, and refrigeration equipment.
- Specify, estimate, and install equipment, refrigeration, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
- Respond to emergency requests.
- Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
- Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code.
- Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.
- Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Train and oversee Assistant and Apprentice work.

Journeyman or higher HVAC license
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.50 - $29.50 ($49,920 - $60,320 Annually), commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands for repetitive and overhead tasks. Normal vision and hearing (correctable) are required; in some areas, color vision and sense of smell may be necessary.
