Facilities Management’s Capital Construction and Renovations (CCR) team is seeking a Senior Electrician who brings deep technical knowledge, leadership in the field, and a strong commitment to quality and safety. This is a role for an experienced trades professional who understands that well done electrical work is the backbone of a safe, reliable, and world class University.

Position Overview:

Senior Electricians perform advanced installation, repair, and maintenance work on a wide variety of electrical systems across UVA’s academic, research, healthcare, residential, and historic buildings. This includes normal power distribution as well as critical systems such as emergency backup power, alarms, and life safety equipment where precision and reliability are non-negotiable.

This position is distinguished by a high level of skill and experience. Senior Electricians work with minimal supervision, regularly lead complex jobs, and provide onsite guidance to Electricians, Assistants, and Apprentices. The work is hands-on, technically demanding, and essential to the daily operation of the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the layout, planning, and execution of larger and more complex electrical jobs involving multiple mechanics or crews.
  • Support the supervisor by helping coordinate daily assignments across various job sites.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative and emergency maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Respond to urgent service calls to restore power and critical functions safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding job status, timelines, and any unexpected delays.
  • Set the standard for job‑site safety by ensuring compliance with OSHA requirements, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.
  • Specify materials, estimate work, and install wiring, equipment, and systems in accordance with applicable codes and UVA standards.
  • Provide direct oversight, coaching, and mentorship to junior electricians, helping build the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
  • Take pride in maintaining high workmanship standards that reflect the University’s commitment to excellence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Seven years of experience in electrical trade.

Licensure: Journeyman or Master level electrical license. Valid driver's license.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $29.00 - $34.00 per hour ($60,320 - $70,720 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

Requires regular walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and climbing ladders or stairs, lifting and carrying of various weights. Repetitive motion for grasping, pulling, pushing, and operating hand and power tools; work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and environments.
