ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY CREW LEADER I- WATER
Position Summary: Schedules and oversees daily operations of assigned crew, schedules and plans daily activities to maximize efficient use of personnel and equipment, calls in Miss Utility Tickets for work assignments, performs difficult skilled maintenance or construction work in the repair, maintenance and installation of water and sewer utility system. Maintains time and material records and documents for all assigned jobs;
requisitions materials and equipment as needed. Continually oversees and inspects the work for compliance with construction specifications. Comprehensive knowledge of all equipment and tools used in water and sewer utility construction; proven ability to communicate required skill and understanding to employees under his supervision. Employee must be available nights, weekends and holidays to respond to Emergency Incidents when requested.
- Coordinating with the Engineering Department and responding to citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Utilizing GIS and construction plans to support field operations and project layout.
- Leading and participating in crew activities, monitoring productivity, and ensuring the safe and effective completion of assigned work.
- Overseeing site restoration activities, including asphalt and concrete repairs, topsoil placement, seeding, and straw application.
- Maintaining work records in Cityworks, preparing red‑line plan edits, attending required meetings and training, and completing work order documentation.
- Operating and maintaining vehicles, equipment, and tools used in utility construction and maintenance.
- Enforcing safety procedures, conducting weekly safety meetings, ensuring compliance with work zone safety requirements, and adhering to OSHA and VDOT regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three to five years of relevant job‑related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the inspection, repair, and diagnostic functions of water and the maintenance of vehicles and related equipment.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, ACSA safety regulations, and VDOT guidelines.
- Valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia supplemented by a Class A combination vehicle and Tanker endorsements.
- Asbestos Supervisor License.
- Class 5 Water Works License.
- CPR, First Aid and AED Certification.
- Intermediate Work Zone.
- VDOT Flagging Certification.
- Entry Supervisor for Confined Space.
- NIMMS Training.
Starting Salary Range: $63,124 – $75,748
