Summary/Objective

The HVAC Installation Mechanic will perform skilled work in the installation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.

Essential Functions
  • Installs commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems including power wiring from the load side of disconnect, control wiring, minor gas and condensate piping, refrigerant piping if needed, refrigerant recovery, duct and insulation, evacuation, charging, and test procedures.
  • Sketches transitions and other duct fittings required to complete assigned work.
  • Requisition s material and supplies from stockroom and vendors.
  • Performs brazing, soldering, pipe fitting, and minor fabrication.
  • Establishes a plan to complete jobs on time and to meet/beat budget estimates.
  • Coordinates activities of assigned craft workers.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, drawings, and job orders.
  • Welds, sells, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, and bonds component parts to assemble products, using hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Installs systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings or work‑sites.
  • Works within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Is responsible for high attention to prevent damage or waste.
  • Works closely with external and/or internal contacts to carry out responsibilities.
  • Maintains and cares for all company assets including but not limited to tools, trucks, equipment, etc.
  • Completes all necessary forms and paperwork as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

Required
  • 2 years of progressive HVAC operational experience in building systems, products and services (HVAC industry) or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience.
  • Excellent initiative, interpersonal communication skills, and sense of urgency.
  • Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Must possess or obtain personal hand tools.
  • Must be able to multi‑task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem‑solving skills.
  • Must be able to pass a post‑offer pre‑employment drug screen and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e., DMV, criminal history).
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures.
  • Must be available and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned.
Work Environment
  • May work in varying temperatures – inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness.
  • May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights.
Physical Demands
  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools.
  • The employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand or walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reaches with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color‑coded cable/wire and see close vision, distant vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Travel
  • May require travel.
Preferred
  • Journeyman card or Masters license.
  • Experience in a commercial/industrial work environment.
  • Universal CFC certification.
  • Prior military experience.
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent.
