This position performs routine work in cleaning/sanitizing an assigned area of a school building by following prescribed cleaning frequencies. Under limited supervision, this position is also responsible for floor maintenance, furniture relocation, and maintaining the immediate perimeter of the school building. Shift work may be required.
General Definition of Work:
Performs responsible skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and installation of critical electrical systems including, but not limited to, fire alarm systems, security alarm systems, access control systems, security entry equipment, panic buttons, emergency generators, and intercom systems; does related work as required. Supervision will be exercised over semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Maintains acceptable attendance in accordance with Albemarle County guidelines.
This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.
Essential Functions:
Uses Fire Alarm systems knowledge of specific software to operate, program, and troubleshoot the system;
Serves as an expert and main point of contact for security alarm systems, access control systems, security entry equipment, panic buttons, emergency generators, security cameras, and intercom systems;
Conducts training with administrative staff at schools on critical safety systems;
Participates in crisis preparedness exercises with administrative staff;
Responds to all calls related to fire alarm systems, intercom systems, security systems, and cameras;
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical power and lighting lines, cables, and associated parts of circuits;
Installs and maintains switches, outlets, fuse boxes, circuit breakers, meters, light fixtures, electrical motors, public address, and fire alarm systems;
Provides electrical connections for machinery, installs motors, electrical welding machines, and similar equipment;
Inspects and tests equipment, electrical control, and safety devices;
Establishes appropriate safe practices for self, personnel in schools, and personnel under his/her supervision at job sites;
Uses knowledge of software programs to operate, troubleshoot and manipulate the systems;
Coordinates with Technology Department to obtain IP addresses to install/troubleshoot security cameras as well as troubleshooting the camera system;
Performs installation/termination of data drops for computer and IP phone connectivity;
Provides security system troubleshooting involving access to the program, troubleshooting zones for defective devices and or cabling, and diagnosing the operation of the system;
Moves snow during the winter;
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in installing and repairing electrical wiring systems, controls, and electrical machinery and equipment in buildings; thorough knowledge of the provisions of the appropriate Electrical Code, and pertinent City or State inspection and safety requirements; ability to diagnose and correct electrical power, lighting or communications failures; ability to do field or shop repair on electrical equipment;
ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school or vocational school and extensive experience as a general electrician supplemented by course work in an electrical field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
