Maintenance Crew Supervisor II

This position performs difficult skilled technical work inspecting, supervising, and participating in a variety of construction, repair, installation, and maintenance projects related to Water/Wastewater services and systems. Work is performed under the direction of and reports to a General Maintenance Supervisor within the Department of Public Utilities.

The preferred hiring range for this position is between $29.26 - $36.72 an hour ($60,860.80 - $76,377.60 annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity.

This position is part of the Labor and Trades bargaining unit, as defined by the City's Collective Bargaining Ordinance (Ordinance No. 22-128). Future wage adjustments are subject to terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement between the City and the exclusive bargaining representative.

  • Choice of retirement plan:
    • Defined Benefit Pension Plan: Provides a monthly benefit upon retirement, calculated using a defined formula based on earnings history, years of service, and age. The plan includes a 5-year vesting period and requires an employee contribution of 5% of salary.
    • Defined Contribution 401a Plan: Employer makes fixed contributions to an individual account, which are invested, and returns are credited to the account. The account balance is used to provide retirement benefits. Vesting occurs at 33% after one year, 67% after two years, and 100% after three years of service. No salary contribution is required.
  • Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan
  • Eligibility to purchase prior service credit under the Defined Benefit Plan

  • Supervises maintenance crew staff on-site during performance of assigned work including scheduling, assigning, training, evaluating and ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, policies and procedures, and work completed in a satisfactory manner, including to prevent damage, injury, and jobsite hazards.
  • Plans, schedules, and stages maintenance and repair work projects, making adjustments as needed.
  • Performs layout of new installation and replacement of existing infrastructure.
  • Performs or assists in performing more difficult maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Performs pipe fitting tasks, including working with pipe, fittings, valves, risers, and other equipment pertinent to assigned work area.
  • Performs utility repair work during emergencies in accordance with SOP and applicable Federal, State and local standards and specifications to address the leaks and protect public safety.
  • Coordinates agreements with contractors, inspectors, and other agency partners.
  • Manages projects and work assignments, ensures all equipment and materials are provided and inspects work for compliance for quality, timeliness and safety standards.
  • Manages materials inventory, inspects and maintains equipment.
  • When necessary, operates motorized equipment effectively and safely.
  • Provides front-line customer service for the department by investigating and addressing concerns from residents, businesses, and other City departments.
  • Trains and educates staff on proper operating procedures and the proper use of hand tools, power tools, heavy motorized equipment and trucks.
  • Submits information to appropriate staff to incorporate data into other systems.
  • Ensures documentation and recordkeeping is accurate and completed in a timely manner in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, by completing and verifying work order forms/data, preparing reports, and other required documentation.
  • Supports the planning and implementation of emergency operations and special events.
  • Responds to special events, seasonal tasks, and emergency related situations, which may include but not limited to inclement weather situations such as snow, or debris collection and removal.
