This Maintenance Worker III performs semi-skilled work in a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction assignments, safely using specialized tools and operating equipment to complete assigned work as part of the Wastewater Division within the Department of Public Utilities
. Work is performed under the general supervision of and reports to a Maintenance Crew Supervisor II.

The preferred hiring range is $20.86 to $25.65 an hour ($43,388.80 - $53,352.00 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. Future wage adjustments are subject to terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement between the City and the exclusive bargaining representative. This full-time, non-exempt position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 13 paid holidays plus one floating holiday, vacation and sick leave, health insurance with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, gym membership reimbursement, tuition assistance, and professional development opportunities.

This position is also eligible for the following retirement benefits:

  • Choice of retirement plan:
    • Defined Benefit Pension Plan:Provides a monthly benefit upon retirement, calculated using a defined formula based on earnings history, years of service, and age. The plan includes a 5-year vesting period and requires an employee contribution of 5% of salary.
    • Defined Contribution 401a Plan:Employer makes fixed contributions to an individual account, which are invested, and returns are credited to the account. The account balance is used to provide retirement benefits. Vesting occurs at 33% after one year, 67% after two years, and 100% after three years of service. No salary contribution is required.
  • Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan
  • Eligibility to purchase prior service credit under the Defined Benefit Plan

  • Performs maintenance, repair, and construction work utilizing specialized tools/equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulations. May include flagging, digging trenches, skilled pipe fitting, right-of-way, or other construction duties based on assignment.
  • Performs skilled pipe fitting duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of water/wastewater/stormwater systems. Works with pipes, fittings, valves, fire hydrants and manholes.
  • Operates the Closed-Circuit Television Sewer Main Inspection (CCTV) as a preventative maintenance, pre-acceptance inspection, and to identify major line breaks or minor breaks before they become an emergency.
  • Operates sanitary vac-truck to provide preventative maintenance in the form of jetting and cleaning sewer mains to avoid potential overflows.
  • Inspects and prepares the job site for maintenance and repair of infrastructure, facilities, and/or grounds.
  • Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with maintenance, repair, custodial, and construction operations.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment according to project need, which may include but is not limited to front-end loader, dump truck, jackhammer, tamper, and/or other equipment related to assignment.
  • Conducts cleanup and restoration work on assignments.
  • Ensures the execution of work in accordance with applicable safety standards and standard operating procedures, including but not limited to traffic control, signage, barricades, lane closure, proper utilization of equipment and tools, etc.
