Health Team Intern: Refugee Care & Transport

Overview

The Health Team Intern will support the IRC Health Team in delivering healthcare assistance to refugee families in Charlottesville. Duties include transportation, care coordination, and advocacy.

• Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation
• Provide transportation for clients and families to medical, dental, and vision appointments
• Implement a transit orientation to familiarize clients with available public transportation modes
• Assist Health Team with administrative tasks such as phone calls, filing, collecting signed paperwork, and scheduling appointments
• Assist clients on an as‑needed basis with prescription assistance, medical bill assistance, and related support
• Record hours and submit a monthly timesheet via the IRC Volunteer Dashboard

• Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine interest in serving refugees
• Respectful and culturally sensitive, able to honor diverse beliefs and values
• Own a car, possess a valid driver’s license and car insurance
• Willingness to use personal vehicle to transport clients and accommodate their needs
• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, the Charlottesville public transportation system
• Position is unpaid and reports to the IRC Charlottesville Family Wellbeing Supervisor
