Organization Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville

The Bilingual Family Services Manager is part of Habitat’s Department of Family and Community Partnerships, which provides direct services and support for Habitat applicants, home buyers, and homeowners. This role would be responsible for the post-closing support of each neighborhood, while working with the pre-closing staff to react to challenges and institute changes for the homebuyer program.

Job Duties
  • Direct Services & Homeowner Support
    • Facilitate Post-Closing Transitions:
      Conduct scheduled check-ins with Habitat Homeowners to ensure a successful transition into home ownership, assisting with utility setup, school registrations, and navigation of local services, etc.
    • Warranty Coordination:
      Assist the Warranty Manager by providing Spanish interpretation and scheduling assistance for warranty appointments during the Homeowner’s one year warranty period.
  • Community Engagement & Governance
    • HOA Representation:
      Serve on the Southwood Community Association Board during the Declarant Period representing the Developer.
    • HOA Troubleshooting:
      Act as a liaison for homeowners to resolve HOA-related matters working in collaboration with the Property Management Group. This may include the submission of Architectural Review Board (ARB) applications and the resolution of property violations.
    • Leadership Development:
      Oversee and further develop the Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) at Southwood, facilitating a collaborative space where resident leaders and the Developer brainstorm neighborhood improvements.
    • Strategic Communication:
      Establish and maintain efficient communication channels between residents, the Developer, and the HOA to foster transparency and clarity.
    • Community Building:
      Design and implement events aimed at fostering social cohesion within a mixed-income neighborhood context.
    • Neighborhood Plan Implementation:
      Work with the Southwood Community Engagement team to support resident engagement in the planning, development, and implementation of the Southwood Neighborhood Plan.
  • Organizational Impact & Administration
    • Program Evaluation:
      Conduct 12-month post-closing surveys with homeowners to gather data that informs the organization’s future building strategies and educational curriculum.
    • Bilingual Support:
      Provide Spanish translation and interpretation services to support the administrative needs of the Department of Family and Community Partnerships.
    • Strategic Planning:
      Collaborate with the Associate Director of Community Engagement to implement leadership development plans for Southwood and Carlton.

      Collaboration:

      Implement and support programs that help families prioritize exterior maintenance, ensuring the long-term preservation of their property values and neighborhood assets.
    • Management:
      This position does not currently have direct reports but may include supervisory responsibilities in the future.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong English and Spanish Skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively and compassionately with low-income residents from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, colleagues, Board, and committee members.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Positive, “can do” personality with the ability to adapt flexibility to a changing work environment.
