Logistics Driver

Overview

We are currently offering a $2,500 sign-on bonus for Logistics Driver new hires. $1,250 is payable after 90-days of employment, and the remaining $1,250 is payable after 180 days of employment.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Logistics Driver in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Logistics Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient transportation of industrial/commercial parts and construction equipment to customer locations and Carter Machinery branches over established routes. Seeking candidate with a minimum of two years of CDL driving experience, including heavy-haul and tractor/lowboy driving;
Valid CDL A licensure, required;
High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

• Transport industrial/commercial parts and construction equipment to customer locations and Carter Machinery branches over established routes in a safe, efficient manner.
• Operate trucks in configurations of 5 or 6 axles and conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working order.
• Secure cargo for transport using chains and/or binders to conform with local, state and federal regulations.
• Interact professionally with customers and all levels of personnel within the organization; understand and explain problems and concerns related to deliveries.
• Work in situations requiring speed and tight deadlines while maintaining safety and compliance with DOT and Company safety standards.
• Knowledge of rental, construction, and generator equipment; operate, demonstrate and instruct proper equipment operation.
• Operate a forklift as required and maintain effective communication with customers and team members.
• Work additional hours as required by job and customer demand; promote a positive customer experience.

• Excellent driving record and thorough knowledge of DOT and Company safety standards and regulations.
• Ability to conduct inspections of a truck and ensure it is in good working order.
• Ability to secure cargo with chains/binders and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Mechanical aptitude with ability to perform basic truck maintenance tasks.
• Strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
• Ability to operate a forklift and interact professionally with customers and internal staff.
• Ability to work extended hours as needed and handle deadlines robustly.
• Knowledge of rental, construction, and generator equipment; ability to operate and demonstrate proper use.

Physical requirements must be met for the Logistics Driver job, including the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds, including bulky objects. This position requires frequent reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
