Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material, sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds, and navigate high‑traffic, congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large open‑top or compactor containers from customer locations, often operating in tight overhead environments on industrial routes. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential for all drivers.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Inform the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets or alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out procedures.
- Perform all duties as scheduled and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

Required Qualifications
- One year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL.
- One year equivalent military driving within the last seven years.
- At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screening and physical examination.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.

This role is designated as safety sensitive and will require the successful candidate to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols. As part of the ongoing employment requirements, the successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre‑employment screening, post‑incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing, in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
