Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support a focused accounting review project in Bloomington, Minnesota. This Contract position will play a key role in evaluating financial records, improving accuracy across accounting data, and strengthening the integrity of reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, hands-on Quick Books Online expertise, and the ability to work independently with sensitive financial information.

Responsibilities:

- Examine financial activity tied to the fiscal year-end period to confirm entries are complete, accurate, and properly recorded.

- Detect transactions posted to incorrect accounts and recommend appropriate adjustments to improve ledger accuracy.

- Research unusual or conflicting accounting activity and resolve discrepancies through detailed follow-up and analysis.

- Clean up Quick Books Online by removing outdated bank accounts that are no longer active or relevant.

- Prepare and review reporting that highlights donations associated with the fundraising campaign period specified by the organization.

- Assess fixed asset records on the balance sheet and correct classification or balance issues where needed.

- Identify aged or unsupported receivable items and clear invalid outstanding balances from the records.

- Export accounting data into Excel to perform analysis, validate trends, and support cleanup efforts.

- Protect confidential financial data at all times and ensure access credentials are fully removed from work devices at the end of the engagement.

Requirements - 5+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on work as a Staff Accountant or in a similar finance role.

- Proficiency with Quick Books Online and strong working knowledge of general ledger maintenance and journal entries.

- Experience reviewing financial transactions, resolving invoice or posting discrepancies, and improving record accuracy.

- Understanding of financial reporting, fixed asset accounting, and balance sheet reconciliation.

- Familiarity with sales tax and corporate tax return processes is preferred.

- Strong Excel skills with the ability to download, organize, and analyze accounting reports efficiently.

- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial information and system access details.
