The Recreation Coordinator creates lifelong memories and a healthier community for all to enjoy in Chaska with an emphasis on providing exceptional recreation programs for all ages and all abilities. Additionally, this position will provide a broad range of general support across all programming areas.
Programming and Evaluation- Develops, promotes and implements programs for youth and teens, including enrichment opportunities, preschool sports opportunities, camps and field trips.
- Supervises, leads by positive example, and redirects participants in programs, as necessary.
- Partners with contracted instructors, community organizations, school district and various city departments to provide a variety of health and wellness opportunities for youth and teens in the community.
- Assists Recreation Supervisors and Recreation Manager with direct, hands‑on support for program participants in a variety of programs and events.
- Creates lesson plans and activity agendas for program structure and implementation.
- Reviews and evaluates programs using participants surveys and other tools to measure performance and help inform changes.
- Delivers exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues efficiently, communicating information and ensuring a positive experience that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
- Provide effective and timely communication to parents, caregivers and participants regarding program participation, including behavior management and expectations for a safe and welcoming environment.
- Support part‑time staff on an ongoing basis, promoting strong health and safety practices and providing guidance in navigating difficult situations.
- Assist with performance reviews, setting goals and providing feedback to part‑time staff.
- Provide input and monitoring or program budgets.
- Purchase supplies and equipment and process expenditures in accordance with the City’s accounting procedures.
- Utilizes department software to build programs, process payments and refunds and generate reports.
- Creates and distributes marketing materials to drive program participation.
- Works closely with the Parks and Recreation team to ensure an integrated experience for customers.
- Collaborates closely with the Chaska Community Center and Chaska Curling & Event Center staff to create a positive and energetic work environment.
- Strives for excellence by participating in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field with 1 year of related experience OR
- Associate’s degree with 3 years of related experience
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
- Willingness and ability for flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, point‑of‑sale systems, registration software, internet navigation, or other relevant technologies.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize work tasks
- Knowledge of recreational programming, facility operations and customer service principles.
- Experience working with the public and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi‑task and remain calm in difficult situations
- Ability to demonstrate a strong willingness to learn.
- Dedicated to patron safety and mission of the City of Chaska.
- Represent the City of Chaska in a professional and positive manner at all times.
