The Seasonal Water Education Assistant serves to inform and educate the public about lakes and rivers, natural resources, common water pollutants, stormwater runoff, aquatic invasive species and other environmental topics. The position will work under the Senior Outreach and Engagement Specialist for the Carver County Water Management Organization implementing programs and tasks from the annual education plan. The candidate will develop/enhance their knowledge of watershed management, natural resources, and local government, while providing support for the education program.
The position is expected to begin between mid-May to early June 2026. Work hours are typically Monday – Friday with some evenings and weekends for events. Expected hours are 32-40/week. This is a seasonal non-exempt position. There is neither a guarantee of continual hours or guarantee of future employment, nor County benefits, except as mandated by state and federal law or as specifically referenced in the Personnel Policy Manual.
This position has potential to continue into the fall but will not extend beyond September 30, 2026.
The Carver County Water Management Organization is part of County government that protects, preserves, and manages lakes, rivers and wetlands. Responsibilities- Promoting education programs, coordinating registration, and logistics.
- Designing and creating the Carver County Fair display.
- Leading lessons and activities for K12 summer day camps and other groups as requested.
- Designing educational signs, storymaps on ArcGIS, mailers, and other media.
- Assisting with and writing articles for local newsletters, websites, and social media.
- Creating materials for and staffing displays at city festivals, farmer’s markets, and other events.
- Assist with tasks of the Metro Children's Water Festival.
- Office duties include word processing, filing, copying, email correspondence, research and information gathering, photography, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma; currently enrolled or successfully earned a bachelor or graduate degree in water and natural resources management, environmental education, landscape architecture, urban planning, geography, engineering, or related field. Graduates may also apply.
- Available to work weekends, weekdays and evenings as needed.
- A Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License.
- Ability to lead programs, activities, and groups of youth.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of stormwater runoff, watersheds, water management.
- Skills in graphic arts and design.
All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, and background in investigation.
