Position Overview

As a Deputy Sheriff in Carver County you’ll enforce federal, state, and local laws; respond to emergencies; and proactively protect our communities. You’ll have the opportunity to work in suburban neighborhoods, rural townships, and everything in between—giving you a broad range of experience.

Starting Pay

$45.04 – $54.23 per hour, depending on qualifications. Additional incentives and differentials noted below may bring total annual compensation up to an additional $5,000.

  • Field Training Officer Pay
    : +3 hours of premium pay per day on a regular shift
  • Uniform Allowance
    : $1,000 after the first year of initial issuance

Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas.
  • Write reports and maintain law‑enforcement logs, case records, incident reports, and other required reports.
  • Respond to calls, civil and criminal complaints, disturbances, medicals, accidents, or requests for emergency assistance.
  • Assist and conduct investigative activities and tasks.
  • Participate in task force work in various capacities.
  • Testify in court proceedings in an accurate and truthful manner.
  • Safely and lawfully possess all agency firearms.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or two‑year technical certificate in law enforcement or a related field.
  • Eligibility to possess a Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) License.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
Application Process

All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Top candidates who successfully pass the oral interview(s) will be sent to the background process. Conditional offers will be made to those candidates who successfully pass the background check. Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, CJIS background investigation, psychological evaluation, and pre‑placement physical.

In‑person interviews will be held at the Chaska Justice Center on Wednesday, July 15.
