OverviewMachinist II responsibilities include the set‑up and operation of conventional and CNC machine shop equipment—manual lathes, manual mills, CNC machining centers, cylindrical grinders, and more—to produce complex, tight‑tolerance products. The role also encompasses documentation creation and review, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and advising on equipment selection, set‑up/operation, and maintenance. The incumbent must multitask across various machine‑shop activities with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Manufacture production and tooling parts using a variety of tools, equipment, and materials as required
- Set‑up and operate machine shop equipment in an effective, efficient, safe, and consistent manner
- Perform component/material inspections using appropriate measuring equipment; provide guidance on in‑process and final inspection requirements, methods, and tools
- Measure parts with precision equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, vision systems, etc.
- Interpret graphs and data used for problem solving, SPC, and performance monitoring
- Coordinate, execute, document, and close machine‑shop activities through interaction with other departments
- Generate work instructions, set‑up sheets, programs, etc. for machining activities
- Read, interpret, and advise on manufacturability of documents (blueprints, tolerances, GD&T, operation/tool set‑up sheets, routers, procedures, ECNs, etc.) to produce conforming product on time
- Operate CNC and manual machine‑shop equipment with little to no supervision
- Review documentation and verify that methods, procedures, equipment, and tooling can produce conforming product safely and efficiently
- Train and mentor others on machining processes for production parts
- Communicate issues and recommendations to the appropriate personnel
- Perform troubleshooting to resolve issues and recommend improvements
- Define and perform routine equipment maintenance
- Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with internal and external individuals
- Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal system requirements
- Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels
- Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, and support actions to drive company goals
- Lead the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks in the machining discipline
- Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
- Keep management informed of area activities and any significant problems
- Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
- Ensure that work area and equipment are clean, secure, and well maintained
- Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required
- Frequent exposure to fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration typical of a manufacturing/machine‑shop environment
- Fluctuations between a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine‑shop environment
- Overtime and weekend work may be required as duties demand
- No travel is expected for this position
- Regularly talk and hear; frequently reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Maintain close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for measurement tasks
- Regularly stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch for 7–8 hours daily; move around the facility
- Lift or move items up to 40 pounds routinely and occasionally up to 70 pounds
$25 – $33 per hour
