Position: COLONY POOL LIFEGUARD

Overview

Spend your summer poolside keeping our community safe. The Colony Pool Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe aquatic environment through active surveillance, rule enforcement, and emergency response. This seasonal position plays a critical role in protecting members and upholding YMCA standards.

What You’ll Do
  • Maintain constant, active surveillance of the pool and deck
  • Enforce pool rules and address unsafe behavior
  • Respond immediately to emergencies following YMCA protocols
  • Provide CPR, First Aid, and rescue care when needed
  • Monitor weather conditions and aquatic safety risks
  • Conduct safety checks, equipment inspections, and pool testing as assigned
  • Build positive relationships with members and families

Qualifications
  • At least 15 years old
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

    Ability to demonstrate required rescue skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prior lifeguard experience preferred
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor summer environment (heat, humidity, sun)
  • Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
  • In-water instruction and rescue response
  • Maintaining visual and auditory awareness at all times

This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
