Technical Accountant

The Technical Accounting Specialist is a highly specialized, niche accounting role that supports complex accounting matters unique our client and the electric utility industry. This position requires experienced technical accounting professionals with a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, complex transactions, and accounting research. Unlike general accounting roles, this position focuses on interpretation, application, and documentation of accounting standards that impacts the client's financial reporting and regulatory environment.

While prior electric utility experience is a strong plus, we are welcoming candidates with deep technical accounting expertise from other complex, regulated, or capital-intensive industries.

• Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP and other relevant accounting standards to complex and non-routine transactions.
• Prepare technical accounting analyses, white papers, and position memos to support accounting conclusions.
• Partner with internal stakeholders across finance, regulatory, legal, and operational teams to evaluate accounting implications of new initiatives, contracts, and projects.
• Support the implementation of new accounting standards and assess their impact on TVA’s financial statements and disclosures.
• Provide technical guidance to general accounting, reporting, and business teams to ensure consistent and accurate application of accounting policies.
• Assist with external audit and regulatory inquiries related to technical accounting matters.
• Monitor emerging accounting guidance and evaluate relevance and impact to TVA.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive technical accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting research methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing complex transactions and documenting accounting conclusions.
• Ability to communicate technical accounting concepts clearly to both accounting and non-accounting audiences.

• CPA or equivalent professional certification.
• Experience in technical accounting at a large, complex organization.
• Prior experience in the electric utility industry or another regulated, capital-intensive industry.
• Experience supporting external audits or regulatory reviews.
