Payroll Clerk

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join an accounting-focused team on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position supports accurate and timely payroll operations for a mid-sized employee population and plays an important role in payroll reporting, tax documentation, and issue resolution. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with payroll data, communicates clearly, and is eager to build additional knowledge in tax-related processes.

This is an in-office role in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Responsibilities:

- Process end-to-end payroll for a workforce of approximately 350 employees while maintaining accuracy and compliance with established deadlines.

- Prepare payroll reports and review payroll-related records to ensure figures are complete, organized, and ready for internal or regulatory use.

- Support the completion and submission of quarterly payroll tax documentation, including Forms 941 and 942, with careful attention to detail.

- Administer wage garnishments and other payroll deductions, ensuring updates are entered correctly and handled in accordance with applicable requirements.

- Research payroll discrepancies, respond to follow-up requests, and assist with resolving employee or management questions in a timely manner.

- Maintain payroll information within Quick Books and use Excel to track data, reconcile details, and produce reporting as needed.

- Assist with additional payroll tax tasks and related administrative duties while learning new procedures and contributing to daily workflow demands.

Requirements

- Hands-on experience processing payroll, including full-cycle payroll administration.

- Background supporting payroll for organizations with approximately 200+ employees.

- Working knowledge of payroll reporting and payroll record maintenance.

- Experience with Forms 941 and 942 is required.

- Familiarity with garnishments and payroll deduction processing.

- Proficiency with Quick Books and Microsoft Excel.

- Ability to learn quickly, manage a steady workload, and remain accurate in a fast-paced environment.
