The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM), located in Chattanooga TN, was established in 1961 and is the premier visitor destination that preserves and conveys the rich history of railroading in the southeastern United States. Among its several regular excursions, TVRM’s passenger trains run on a historic route, which includes Missionary Ridge Tunnel, completed in 1858 and on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to the passenger excursions, TVRM preserves railroad equipment to educate visitors about the importance of this industry and how it helped create the modern world in which we live.

- Accounts Payable will support the Finance & Administration Director who has financial, accounting, administrative operations, and cultural responsibilities for the individuals for which they are responsible and works as a member of senior leadership to fulfill the strategic objectives of the organization.

The Accounting Associate – Accounts Payable produces and verifies the invoices and supporting documentation for vendors and gives service support by answering queries on the invoice, adjustments, and settlements. Coordinates actions to ensure timely and efficient processing of invoices. Coordinates day-to-day activities for invoice processing to ensure timely payment to suppliers. Performs verification of expense distributions. Ensures invoices and entries are properly approved, documented, and recorded as incurred.

Analyzes monthly results and assists in providing variance explanations for expenses and/or other key performance indicators.

General description: The Accounting Associate
- Accounts Payable role is a full-time, non-exempt position that is responsible for supporting the accounting function for the businesses of Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM).

• Gathers purchase orders, charge slips, sales tickets, and prepares payments.
• Maintains all payment or other transaction records, and files documents.
• Reconciles processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts.
• Assist with preparing documentation for audits and reporting.
• Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports and recording entries.
• Record and reconcile daily financial transactions (sales, donations, grants, etc.).
• Receive and verify expense reports from personnel.
• Maintains accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
• Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
• Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Adheres to company policies and procedures at all times.
• Works effectively across teams, as needed, to collaborate and deliver on operational goals.
• Works evenings and weekends for events or campaigns as needed.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, including working overtime as needed.
• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, guests, and vendors.
• Performs any other tasks assigned by members of the leadership team.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of accounting experience.
• Proficiency in Accounting Software and Microsoft Office Suite.
